To the staff and students of the ‘Vallée’ and ‘Plateau’ campuses - Message from the Presidency of the Université Paris-Saclay
Dear Colleagues
Dear students,
Two assaults took place in February on our ‘Vallée’ and ‘Plateau’ campuses (in the Petit Bélvédère area), resulting in the theft of personal belongings under threat, without any physical injury.
A complaint has been lodged and an investigation is underway. First of all, we would like to express our total condemnation of these unacceptable acts and our full support for the two student victims.
In order to ensure the safety of our students, a number of measures have been taken since these incidents occurred, including putting the staff of the campus security and prevention service on alert, increased real-time consultation of video surveillance images and the reinforcement of the ‘Vigipirate’ mobile patrols, which have been operating for several months on our ‘Vallée’ and ‘Plateau’ campuses.
In addition to these actions, we are currently asking the town halls (Bures-sur-Yvette, Orsay, Gif-sur-Yvette) to mobilise their municipal police so that patrols can be organised on our campus, in order to discourage any possible criminal actions in the future.
In any event, we would ask you to systematically adopt the following precautions when travelling on our campuses: avoid travelling alone, if possible after dark, give priority to the main routes (well-lit through roads), do not wear objects of value (headphones, wireless headphones, valuable watches, etc.) in an overly visible manner. Above all, if you come across any suspicious individuals or if you witness or are the victim of any incidents, please immediately inform the Vallée campus security centre (01 69 15 79 99) and the head of the campus security and protection service (06 81 45 59 98). We would remind you that security guards are present on campus 24 hours a day and can intervene and, if necessary, notify the police if they are notified quickly.
Please be assured that the university takes the reports received very seriously and is cooperating fully with the forces in charge of the investigation.
Yours sincerely
The Presidency of the University of Paris-Saclay
