Radiation Protection

Radiological protection is an intrinsic component of nuclear safety. This lecture trains students to be active partners in the application and observation of radiological protection rules.

This lecture gives students a description of the foundations, basics and limits of the system of radiological protection that is in use in the nuclear industry and in the medical field.

It describes the radiation health effects (both deterministic and stochastic), the radiation protection system (including the three main principles), the protection quantities and units.

It also presents the various national and international organisms involved in the establishment of the radiological protection regulation.

Finally, it defines and describes the radiometric and dosimetric quantities that allow a radiation field to be characterized.

The main radiological accidents are described and their associated feedback is explained.
