This course explores the relationship between microstructures, textures, and mechanical properties of metallic materials through the study of dislocations, twinning, and crystal transformations. It presents the major experimental tools (X-ray diffraction, TEM, EBSD) for analyzing crystal structures and elastic and plastic deformations. The fundamental mechanisms of microplasticity are detailed, including the kinematics, interactions, and organization of dislocations. The influence of dislocations on work hardening, cyclic behavior, strain rate, and creep is explained, as is the role of grain boundaries, for various alloys. Practical exercises involving X-ray and electron diffraction, and electron microscopy observations, complement the course.
