Aux Etats-Unis comme dans le reste du monde, les a priori abondent au sujet des anciens Etats confédérés. Ce séminaire tentera de donner à comprendre ce que l’on peut désigner comme un habitus de la ségrégation et d’examiner les modes de diffusion de la culture sudiste (culture populaire mais aussi politique) à travers le pays et au-delà de ses frontières, aux 20e et 21e siècles.
In the United States as in the rest of the world, prejudices abound where former Confederate states are concerned. This seminar, which is entirely taught in English, will attempt to give students an insight into what may be called a habitus of segregation and analyze the modes of dissemination of Southern culture across the country and abroad, in 20th- and 21st-cenury popular and political cultures.
