Building Confidence and Fostering Autonomy (S1)
Tomorrow's engineers need to master English to be able to communicate, intervene, and interact, precisely and appropriately, in an international and multicultural context. This course aims to: 1) help you build your self-confidence in the use of the English language and 2) help you become more autonomous in this language, one widely used in professional engineering circles, both orally and in writing.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, you, the student, will be able to:
Think more critically by synthesizing and analyzing documents and media from the English-speaking world
Better organize your ideas in a way that is coherent with the English-speaking world, by learning how to write compositions (e-mails, CVs, essays, etc.) and make oral presentations
Better comment and argue your ideas and opinions in English thanks to debates and role-playing
Better understand and even learn about the cultural and historical highlights of the English-speaking world thanks to real-life material such as newspaper articles, films, literary books, documentaries, etc.
Perfect grammatical, lexical and phonetic linguistic aspects, and become familiar with language usage through tasks requiring the use of English
