The technique involves four steps:
Choose a concept or idea that you want to understand or teach. Write down the name of the concept at the top of a piece of paper.
Teach the concept in your own words as if you were explaining it to someone who has no knowledge of the topic. Avoid using technical jargon or complex language. Use simple and easy-to-understand language.
Identify gaps in your understanding or knowledge. Go back to the source material and re-read the information until you have a clear understanding of the concept.
Simplify your explanation and repeat the process. Continue to simplify and refine your explanation until you can explain the concept in the simplest possible terms.
