The objective of this course is to give an introduction to semantic web that is a subfield of symbolic artificial intelligence. One of its main building blocks is the use of ontologies to formally represent knowledge of a given application domain. These ontologies can be used as a common vocabulary for annotating documents, for querying heterogeneous sources as well as to apply automatic reasoning algorithms that allow to enrich knowledge bases and/or detect inconsistencies.  Moreover, an introduction the the well known standard languages of the W3C for representing data and knowledge (RDF/OWL) as well as for querying them using SPARQL, will be provided.
