The Model United Nations consists in an academic simulation of committee debating at the UN, during which students impersonate a delegate to the United Nations and have to discuss, propose, convince the other delegates toward a consensus and a common proposal, all the while defending one’s country’s interests.
The course thus aims to provide students both with knowledge in global politics and how it relates to heritage and culture, and keys to participate successfully to MUN conferences.
Each student will be asked to choose a country at the beginning of the semester to work on and to represent during the MUN simulation in class.
this course will involve, among other things, attending conferences, the creation of a position paper and a working paper, participation in an in-class simulation, and participation to the UVSQ MUN.
To enroll in the course students are required to have a solid level of English, be curious about current world event and issues, geopolitics and have a deep interest in diplomacy.
