Ce cours présente une introduction à l’histoire politique de la France des années 1870 aux années 2000. Il doit être envisagé en articulation avec vos enseignements de Droit constitutionnel (L1) et d’Introduction à la science politique (L1). Ces éléments seront approfondis dans les cours de Vie politique (L2) et de Socio-histoire des institutions politiques (L3). L’objectif est de revenir sur les connaissances acquises au lycée et, au travers d’éclairages sur des événements et des moments précis, de proposer une intelligibilité aux principales configurations politiques qui se sont entremêlées et succédées depuis plus de 150 ans. Pour cela, l’analyse de faits-divers, d’opérations policières et de scandales judiciaires sera privilégiée et considérée comme révélatrice d’un « air du temps » et de tendances profondes du monde politique ou de la société française.
Les séances devront être préparées en amont à partir de ressources (textes, vidéos, podcasts…) mises en ligne sur l’espace numérique dédié. Chacun des cours sera divisé en 5 courtes séquences : récit des événements ; implications politiques à l’époque ; implications sociales à l’époque ; résonances actuelles ; questions (un document matrice, à compléter à chaque séance est disponible en format .doc sur e-campus).
L’évaluation finale (examen terminal, janvier 2024) portera non seulement sur le contenu des dix séances mais également sur l’ensemble du travail préparatoire et sur les prérequis (programme du lycée) qui auront été signalés ou évoqués en cours.

This course examines the nature and tools of hard Power in international relations. We will study in what contexts and in what ways this approach has been used, whether in the economic or military realm. We’ll take a closer look at the U.S. as it has been the first military power since the end of WW2.
The course is divided into five sections. Part I reviews the nature of power in international and global politics. The class will look at how scholars have theorized about the nature of power and hard power. Part II examines the Economic face of hard power, first reviewing the requirements to resort to that tool, then covering and assessing instances of economic sanctions and finally taking a closer look at two pendants of economy combined with hard power, ie the arms trade and the military industrial complex. Part III will explore hard power in its military form. Through selected examples we will study how some countries have resorted to the use of military force and the consequences of this choice on I.R. Part IV will focus on how perceptions of hard power are voiced but also shaped in movies. In Part V of the course students will present and discuss their own investigation on instances of use of hard power.
